Visible Ceiling Tiles Version 3.0 - 08/23/05
by jgwhiteus. Controller by Simlogical's Inge Jones.
These are flat ceiling tiles that can be placed in rooms to give the
appearance of a "ceiling" in the game when viewed from below. The "full" tile
fills an entire square in the object grid. Half tiles 1 and 2 are triangles
for sections with diagonal walls. If one of the half tiles doesn't quite seem
to fit, or you get a strange lighting problem, then use the other half tile -
together, they should be able to fill in any corner.
Place all files (the full tile, half tiles 1 and 2, and the ceiling controller)
in your EA Games/The Sims2/Downloads folder. All objects will appear in your
"Decorative - Miscellaneous" category in Buy Mode (the controller appears to
be a compact disc), costing $1 each. Tested with EP.
A. THE CEILING CONTROLLER
Developed by simlogical's Inge Jones, this is a small CD object that allows you
to manage the tiles. It can be placed underneath other objects when not in use.
1. Delete Tiles - Allows you to delete an individual tile (directly above the
controller), all tiles within an enclosed room, and all tiles on the lot.
2. Fadeout - many ceiling objects (such as lamps) fade from view if you zoom
in close to them. Use this option to enable or disable this option for the tiles.
3. Ceiling Object Visibility - allows you to completely hide or reveal all ceiling
objects (not only the tiles, but ceiling lamps and sculptures as well).
4. Ceiling Tile Visibility - allows you to completely hide or reveal just the ceiling
tiles. This will not affect other ceiling objects such as ceiling lamps or sculptures.
This is a separate function from the Version 3 Tile Mode (if you choose to hide the
tiles, they will not be visible even from below).
5. Version 3 Tile Mode - use this to "flip up" or "flip down" the version 3 tiles.
See below.
B. VERSION 3 TILES MODES
1. "Flipped up" (the default state) - use this mode when you want
to select and place the tiles. The tiles are visible from both above and below,
and their entire area is clickable for pickup and placement. However,
this means that any objects below them in the room will be covered up and
will not be selectable (since the ceiling tiles will be in the way).
2. "Flipped down" (using the Ceiling Controller) - use this mode for gameplay.
The tiles become completely invisible from above but still visible from below,
and their clickable area is reduced to a single pixel. This means that objects
beneath the tiles in the room can be seen and interacted with, so there is no
interference with gameplay. It is virtually impossible to pick up the tiles
for placement when flipped down.
C. RECOLORS
These tiles can be recolored with SimPE's Object Creation Workshop (Colour Enabling
Packages reqiured). They use 256 X 256 textures. When the tiles are flipped up,
the image may appear "backwards" from above - the image should be correct from below.
KNOWN RECOLOR ISSUES:
1. RECOLORS WILL SEEM TO "DISAPPEAR" WHEN THE CEILING TILES ARE "FLIPPED DOWN." The tiles
will revert to their default texture, and the recolor will still not appear when the tiles
are flipped back up. Don't worry; they're still there. YOU MUST SAVE, EXIT TO THE NEIGHBORHOOD,
AND RE-ENTER THE LOT TO VIEW THE RECOLOR TEXTURES CORRECTLY AFTER YOU HAVE "FLIPPED DOWN"
THE TILES.
2. Recolors will appear TWICE in the object's selection menu (i.e. you will see two identical
recolor options for each recolor package you've made). That is because there are two material
overrides in the object - one for each mode. It doesn't matter which re-color option you
select - the texture should display correctly with both.
D. UPDATES FROM PREVIOUS VERSIONS AND THANK YOU's:
- Updates from Version 2.1
- New "modes" for managing clickable area and visibility
- Textures enlarged from 128 X 128 to 256 X 256
- Height adjusted to maximum height so wallpapers are not cut off.
(Note: if you've downloaded my "glow in the dark" ceiling decals, also avaiable
at
www.modthesims2.com, then they should now display correctly with these tiles).
- Textures and recolors now visible in object catalog
- Fixed lighting problem with half tiles (had to use "move_object on" to put them
in certain corners and game sometimes thought they were "outside") by moving mesh
and creating two half-tile versions.
- Thank You to:
- Simlogical's Inge Jones (

This project wouldn't be possible without her expertise and advice.
